GETTING POLITICAL
“Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a disgrace to any people,” Proverbs 14:34.
I was asked the question recently, “Pastor do you think you should get so political?”
The question came because of a statement and a yard sign. The statement addressed the issue of weighing the moral stands candidate take before joining their bandwagon. The sign was a “Vote Yes for Life”.
My answer was short, “If speaking the truth in love is political, yes, I do.”
It was followed by my questions, “Do you think a pastor should remain silent? Other than before Pilate, did Jesus? Did he confront the culture?”
Their answer was short too, “Yes, He did. I guess you should too.”
It is easy to get caught up in rationalizing. Fear of criticism can be paralyzing. Remember the One you are ultimately accountable to. He does expect leaders to lift up righteousness in word and deed.
Unless we make them complicated, God’s answers to our present day culture wars are very simple. It is not popular or easy to take a stand, but a stand is just what God is calling leaders take … stand on His Word … stand for righteousness.
Stand for righteousness. Call your people to pray. Humble yourself. Confess your sin. Cry out for mercy. Exercise your privileges to speak up and to vote. Persuade fellow believers to do the same. Believe that God will answer. Allow your life to be a Heaven sent answer of righteous living. (2 Chronicles 7:14)
If this is getting political, GO FOR IT!
